Pain Management
Dental pain is a unique type of discomfort. The large amount of nerve endings in the mouth and rest of the head causes any tooth issue to be felt in vivid detail.
Tooth pain can be caused by:
- Trauma to the tooth
- Abscess forming
- Decay
- Irritation to nerve
Managing tooth pain:
- Immediately after dental work, teeth will be sensitive to cold foods. The nerve is irritated and simply needs time to settle down. Avoid foods that are very hot or very cold until the sensitivity subsides.
- For extreme pain, anti-inflammatories and the application of an ice pack at twenty minute intervals will also help. Do not apply ice for an extended period, it can cause tissue damage, making the issue worse.
- Sleep with the head elevated.
