What is a dental veneer?

A veneer is a thin layer of porcelain cemented to the front of teeth to mask discolorations and repair minor shape issues. Teeth that need major repairs are better treated with a crown.  Veneers are typically placed in sections of four to six teeth to give problem teeth a more uniform appearance or to match an existing cap or crown. Many celebrities have veneers, they are a large portion of the classic Hollywood smile.
