Trauma
We have all heard that horror story. You bite down into a piece of candy and you hear “CRACK”, your heart drops, you cracked your tooth! But do not fear, Wheaton Dental is here!
There are many things that could cause dental trauma:
- Decayed tooth with weakened enamel finally breaks
- Contact sports, such as football, played without wearing a sports guard
- Clenching and grinding without the use of a night guard
- Accidents that lead to being hit in the face or mouth
- Oral piercings
Sometimes, trauma can even knock your tooth out completely. Crown and all! If you happen to knock your tooth out, you could still save it. Some tips are to immediately put in tact tooth in a cup of milk or your own saliva. Call your dentist immediately and leave tooth in milk until you get to your appointment. Whatever you do, do not put the tooth in water or soda. Placing it in water or soda lessons your chances of saving the tooth. If the tooth is healthy and intact, your dentist may be able to place it back in the socket and save the tooth.
At Wheaton Dental, we are here to help. The sooner you are seen by the dentist, the better chances of saving your tooth. If you happen to hurt your tooth, give us a call at 614-957-0057 or schedule an appointment online.
